Our Hands Touch Many Lives
Judy Prescott RN, BSN, CIC
Baylor University Medical Center
As the manager of epidemiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, TX, Judy Prescott has been instrumental in the development of infection prevention programs that put quality care first. Prescott created a system-wide hand hygiene campaign called “Our Hands Touch Many Lives,” which includes a year-round calendar of events and activities that emphasize the importance of hand hygiene. She was also responsible for revising the system’s Tuberculosis Exposure Control Plan in order to meet current guidelines. Next, Prescott set out to add alcohol dispensers outside of each patient’s room as part of a “Foam In, Foam Out” campaign. Each of these initiatives contributed to improved patient care and overall patient safety throughout the 13 facilities in the Baylor Health Care System.
