Collaborative Initiative – a growing and standard practice
Ava Jill Dobin, RN, BSN, CIC
Coral Springs Medical Center
Coral Springs, FL
Ava Jill Dobin is known for finding cost-effective improvements for quality patient care at Coral Springs Medical Center in Coral Springs, FL. She led an interdisciplinary team that reduced ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) rates by 91 percent. Dobin’s team analyzed and implemented a new product that increased proper oral care in ventilated patients in the hospital’s adult intensive care unit. Not only did this decision decrease the rate of VAP to zero for 15 consecutive months, it saved the hospital more than $800,000 annually. Dobin’s team was not only lauded for their achievements in the facility, they were also awarded the Governor’s Sterling Award for performance excellence in Florida.
