Infection Preventionist – Manager of Infection Prevention
Cortland Regional Medical Center

Maria began her career as a clinical microbiologist at the Cortland Regional Medical Center Laboratory where she worked for 18 years before pursuing her love of infectious diseases and becoming an Infection Preventionist. She has been a board certified IP for 18 years in both acute and long-term care.

Maria is an active APIC member and has served in several capacities at both local and national levels. She has served as President of the Heart of New York Chapter three times, and has been Education Chair of this Chapter for 14 years.  Nationally, she has served on the Communications Committee and is currently on the Practice Guidance Committee where she acts as the APIC liaison for the Safe Injection Practice Coalition. Maria has also been a reviewer of the 4th Edition of the APIC Text, and on the 2016 EPI Academy Revision Team.

Besides her family, Maria’s passion is infection prevention. She is very eager to share her knowledge, skills and professional wisdom with others, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their roles.
