Sue has been the Infection Prevention/Employee Health Director at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas since 1983. Prior to that, she was the Infection Control Practitioner at Laboratory Control, Ltd., PC in Ottumwa, Iowa. Sue received her diploma in Nursing from Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing in Camden, New Jersey and her Bachelor of Science from University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois and her MBA from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. She has served her local APIC Chapter as President in 1986 and as Chair of the Rural Health Outreach Program Task Force. She has been a member of several National APIC Program Committees, serving as Chair of the Program Committee in 1997. She has served terms as a member of the National APIC Board of Directors from 1998 through 2001, President Elect in 2004, President in 2005, and Past President in 2006. She has also served 2 terms as Chair of the former Governmental Affairs Committee and the Volunteer Leader of the Public Policy Program and member of the Nominating and Awards Committee.
Sue has served the Texas Society of Infection Control and Prevention as a Board Member for 5 years and as its President. She was Texas’ 1994 recipient of the Gerry Haynes Memorial Award for Excellence in Infection Control. In 2013 She was awarded APIC’s Distinguished Service Award. Sue was a faculty member of APIC’s ICE I and ICE II Courses and is currently a faculty member of the Education for Prevention of Infections (EPI) courses. She has presented many educational programs, including at APIC’s annual conferences in 1995, 1998, 200, 2008 and 2009. She is also is a contributing author to the APIC Text of Infection Prevention and Epidemiology.
