    Updated safe injection practices position paper

    APIC updated the position paper: Safe injection, infusion, and medication vial practices in health care (2016), which replaces the previous 2010 paper. This position paper provides guidance on best practices for infection preventionists and other HCP.

    APIC announces new 'Fellows' program

    APIC today announced the Advanced Designation Program, which will recognize exemplary APIC members with status as a Fellow of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (FAPIC). Fellow of APIC status is a distinction of honor for infection preventionists who are not only advanced practitioners of infection prevention practice, but also leaders within the field.

    Distinguished HAI public policy and patient safety advocate to serve as 2016 APIC president

    APIC is pleased to welcome Susan A. Dolan, RN, MS, CIC, as 2016 APIC president. Ms. Dolan is a hospital epidemiologist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, in Aurora, CO. Ms. Dolan has contributed to advocacy, clinical practice, education, and research in the field of infection prevention for more than 20 years.

    Active shooter situations—Vital information for IPs

    Recent events of gun violence have demonstrated that an active shooter situation can happen anywhere and at any time. APIC Emergency Preparedness Committee Member Tonya Wagner, RN, has written an article in the winter issue of APIC’s Prevention Strategist magazine that highlights strategies for healthcare facilities to reduce the loss of lives in active shooter situations.
