    APIC election deadline October 22

    APIC elections will close on October 22. Elections are open for candidates running for office on the 2013 APIC Board of Directors and the Nominating and Awards Committee. Your participation in annual elections is very important. APIC leaders represent you and your colleagues at every board meeting, to external partners, and through the decisions they make that affect your organization and your profession. You will see from the 2013 slate of candidates that the Nominating and Awards Committee selected from a broad range of APIC member demographics – including professional experience, practice settings, new skills and expertise.

    APIC has launched a new tool to proactively inform members about current public policy actions related to infection prevention.  Now, instead of having to check back on the APIC website for the latest public policy developments, members who sign up for our Action E-List will be alerted via e-mail when new content is added to the news section of our public policy page.

    New online course - Continuing the Care: Infection Prevention in the Long-Term Care Setting

    New regulations in healthcare have resulted in greater emphasis on infection prevention in the long-term care (LTC) setting. APIC now provides a course with emphasis on basic infection prevention practices specific to the LTC setting, the unique challenges that long-term care facilities are faced with, and infection prevention resources specific to LTC.     The Annual Conference Committee invites you to submit a presentation proposal for the APIC 2013 Annual Conference, June 8-10 in Ft. Lauderdale. All applications must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. PST Tuesday, July 30. Incomplete applications will not be considered for review by the 2013 Annual Conference Committee.     The collaborative infection prevention efforts of Kathy Roye-Horn, RN, CIC, director of Infection Prevention, and Marita Nash, MBA, CHESP, director of Environmental Services and Linen – both of Hunterdon Medical
    Center in Flemington, NJ – were featured in the Wall Street Journal’s “Informed Patient” column on Tuesday, June 5. A separate article, also on June 5, covered new research presented at the Annual Conference, as well as highlights of the APIC Film Festival.
