Volunteering

Volunteers play an important role in the mission and vision of APIC. We have many opportunities to volunteer whether you are looking for a long-term position or a short-term project.

Applications are accepted year-round for short-term opportunities. See below for additional information. Apply now (You will log in using your APIC.org credentials.)

APIC volunteers may be eligible to receive Infection Prevention Units (IPUs) which are used to recertify for the CIC credential. For more information, please visit cbic.org.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Board of Directors

The board is responsible for positioning the association to best serve APIC members as well as maintaining the focus and vision to improve the practice and management of infection prevention. Eligibility to serve on the APIC Board of Directors no longer requires that candidates be certified in infection prevention and control (CIC).

Chapters

Join other professionals in your area to be part of an active infection prevention community.

Committees

2024 submission period is closed.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Committee member
  • Eligibility: Full/Active, New IP or Lifetime Member
  • Term: Three years; begins Jan. 1, 2024
  • Selection: Applicants will be notified in Dec. 2023 (for 2024 Committees)

Panels

2024 submission period is closed.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Panel member
  • Eligibility: Full/Active, New IP or Lifetime Member
  • Term: One year with opportunity to extend; begins Jan. 1, 2024
  • Selection: Applicants will be notified in Dec. 2023 (for 2024 Panels)

Task Forces

Appointment: Special assignments as designated by the APIC Board or APIC Program Teams. Term of service may be for the duration of a project.

Application: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force: This taskforce examines how to best structure APIC’s DEI efforts across our volunteer structure, provides recommendations to the APIC Board of Directors on a roadmap forward, and assists in implementing an organization-wide DEI program. 2024 submission period is closed.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Task Force Member
  • Eligibility: Full/Active, New IP or Lifetime Member
  • Term: One year with possible extension; begins Jan. 1, 2024
  • Selection: Applicants will be notified in Dec. 2023 (for 2024 DEI Task Force)

Forums

These moderated discussion groups will focus on a specific topic.  2024 submission period is closed.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Moderator
  • Eligibility: Full/Active, New IP or Lifetime Member; CIC may or may not be required depending on group
  • Term: One year with possible extension
  • Selection: Everyone who expresses interest in volunteering will be contacted in Q1 2024 with additional details.

Councils

Structured groups with volunteer leadership, workplans/goals, and annual reporting requirements.  These groups will be organized around practice setting, position/role, or topic of interest.  2024 submission period is closed.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Lead, Lead-Elect
  • Eligibility: Full/Active, New IP or Lifetime Member
  • Term: Lead – one year; Lead-Elect – one year (would then move into Lead role pending approval)
  • Selection: Everyone who expresses interest in volunteering will be contacted in Q1 2024 with additional details.

Short-Term Opportunities

These are ad hoc opportunities of varying lengths. Examples include: Reviewing APIC Text Chapter revisions, mentoring, and contributing to the development of an educational program.

  • Volunteer opportunities: Multiple
  • Eligibility: Varies
  • Term: Varies; typically 1-6 months
  • Selection: Varies; APIC staff will contact volunteers as needs arise

APIC Text Chapter Revisions:
Volunteer to review APIC Text Chapter revisions in collaboration with the APIC Text Clinical Editors. Prospective chapter authors may submit a CV and writing sample via email at texteditor@apic.org. Please submit an application through the portal for review positions.

Various levels of experience welcome. IP certification, some publishing experience (academic papers, etc.) and/or specialized skills are preferred but not required. Outline how your professional experience is applicable to the role in your application. Please also note if you wish to author or review chapter revisions (or both!) and if you have chapter preference.
