Recent events of gun violence have demonstrated that an active shooter situation can happen anywhere and at any time. APIC Emergency Preparedness Committee Vice Chair Tonya Wagner, RN, has written an article in the winter issue of APIC’s Prevention Strategist magazine that highlights strategies for healthcare facilities to reduce the loss of lives in active shooter situations.
She stresses the importance of enacting an active shooter policy, holding drills with all staff, and involving local law enforcement and emergency personnel in plans and communication. Read the article in Prevention Strategist.
