AHRQ releases technical brief on patient safety in ambulatory settings

The U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) issued Technical Brief Number 27: Patient Safety in Ambulatory Settings. The agency noted that, although most healthcare occurs in ambulatory settings, efforts to improve patient safety practices have focused primarily on acute care. The study looked at what evidence-based patient safety practices are applicable to ambulatory settings, and what factors may influence the implementation of patient safety practices in ambulatory settings. The brief identified patient safety issues that are not well addressed in ambulatory settings, as well as areas needing additional study. Read the AHRQ technical brief.
