HHS declares public health emergency in Puerto Rico in response to Zika outbreak

On August 12, U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell declared a public health emergency for Puerto Rico. The emergency was called at the request of Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla and signals that the current spread of Zika virus poses a significant threat to pregnant women and women of childbearing age in the Commonwealth.
