Nearly 40 percent of hospitalized patients with kidney and urinary tract infections were discharged to post-acute care (PAC), according to a recent statistical brief released by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Of those patients, more than half were discharged to skilled nursing facilities. The AHRQ analysis of 2013 discharges is the first based on a nationally representative all-payer dataset. It noted that nearly eight million inpatient stays were discharged to PAC, accounting for 22 percent of all hospital discharges. Read the AHRQ Statistical Brief.
