New CDC director appointed

Brenda Fitzgerald, MD has been appointed the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Fitzgerald, an obstetrician-gynecologist, has served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health for the last six years, and was president-elect of the Association for State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). Dr. Fitzgerald holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Georgia State University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Emory University School of Medicine, and served as a Major in the U.S. Air Force.
