8 AM – 4:30 PM ET

Designed for those preparing to take the CIC exam or recertification exam, this interactive course will teach the fundamental concepts of IPC practice and provide test preparation tips, strategies, and practice questions. Access guidance for developing a personal study plan and identify test-taking strategies.

Please note: This class will not teach IPC basics. It will help attendees develop familiarity with the CIC exam content and structure and will help develop confidence for taking the exam.

Program Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Describe key concepts and competencies of IPC practice as defined in the CBIC content outline.
  • Discuss how examination questions are constructed.
  • Describe the steps in the certification process.
  • Apply critical thinking skills to analyze different types of exam questions working with peers and guided by expert IPs.
  • Identify strategies to assist with test-taking and development of study plans.

Faculty

Lynn Fine, PhD, MPH, CIC, FAPIC

Lynn Fine has been involved in infection prevention for 15 years and is currently an Infection Preventionist at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. Fine has served on APIC’s Education and Professional Development Committee and currently serves on APIC’s Practice Resource Education Panel. She has also served on CBIC’s test subcommittee. Fine was also a section editor for the APIC Text and authored a chapter in APIC’s “The Infection Preventionist’s Guide to the Laboratory.” Fine has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, a Masters of Public Health, and a PhD in Immunology.

Linda Greene RN, MPS, CIC, FAPIC

Linda Greene has 25+ years of experience in infection prevention. She is currently the Manager of the Infection Prevention Program at University of Rochester, Highland Hospital in Rochester, NY. Greene has served as national faculty for several HAI projects. She was the 2017 APIC President and has served on the APIC Board of Directors as Secretary, APIC’s Public Policy Committee, and the Nominating and Awards Committee. Greene was the APIC Representative to the SHEA Compendium section on SSI and VAE. She was editor of the 2014 CAUTI Implementation Guide and has been lead author on other APIC Implementation Guides and Position Papers.

Accreditation & Contact Hours

Attendees will be able to earn 7.25 contact hours for this activity.

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (APIC) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC).

To receive your credit hours, you must complete all program components as listed above, including the program evaluation online. Course evaluations will be available via an online link provided in course materials. The evaluation must be completed within 30 days.

Accredited status does not imply endorsement by APIC or the American Nurses Credentialing Center of any commercial products displayed or discussed in conjunction with an educational activity. While APIC is approved to provide contact hours, APIC’s educational programs may be eligible for continuing education units from other accrediting bodies. Please note:

  • Registration ends when capacity is reached or at deadline.
  • Registrations are not confirmed until payment is received and processed by APIC 10 business days prior to the start of the course.
  • Once payment is received, an email confirmation will be sent within 24 hours to the email address on file. If you do not receive an email confirmation please contact education@apic.orgPlease ensure email is received prior to making travel arrangements.
  • For attendees arriving on site and payment has not been received a credit card must be provided for payment. Admittance will not be granted until payment is made.

Cancellation Policy

A $75 cancellation fee will be charged to all cancelled registrations. Cancellations must be in writing and received via fax or email no later than 5 business days prior to the start of the course. No refunds or credits/transfers will be granted after this deadline. Participants who are “no shows” will not be granted a refund or credit/transfer of registration fees. Please submit cancellation requests to education@apic.org or via fax to (202) 789-1899.

Please note: Registration fees may only be transferred to the same course within the same calendar year based on space availability.

Substitutions
All substitution requests must be received by APIC Headquarters via fax or email 10 days prior to the start of the course.
