New Hospital COVID-19 Reporting Requirement

APIC has received information that states have been informed that, as of Wednesday, July 15, hospitals will no longer be reporting COVID-19 data to CDC/NHSN. Instead hospitals have been asked to send data directly to the Department of Health and Human Services on a daily basis, and have been informed that data may be reported via the following options:

Sumbit data to TeleTracking™

  • Step 1 – respond to the validation email sent to your administrator.
  • Step 2 – visit https://teletracking.protect.hhs.gov and follow the specific instructions to become users.
    • Each facility will be allowed up to four users for data entry and visual access to aggreggated data on the platform.
    • Users will be validated by the platform.

Report to your state

  • If your state has assumed reporting responsibility, submit all required data to your state daily.
    • In order to use this reporting option, your facility must receive certification from the state that the state is authorized by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to submit data on behalf of your facility.

Authorize your health IT vendor or other third-part to share information directly with HHS

  • This option is only available after you are notified by ASPR or HHS Protect that this implementation is being received and is compliant.

Publish to the facility’s website in a standardized format the required data.

  • This option is only available after you are notified by ASPR or HHS Protect that this implementation is being received and is compliant.

Read the HHS memo for detailed reporting requirements.

APIC believes that NHSN data is the gold standard on HAI reporting and will be working to better understand HHS’s need to collect this data in a modified manner.
