APIC featured on CBS Evening News

CBS Evening News featured APIC’s newly released state CRE reporting map during a primetime segment titled “Superbug poses danger in hospitals” that aired on July 5, 2013. APIC arranged for CRE experts Lance Peterson, MD and Marc-Oliver Wright, MT (ASCP), MS, CIC to be interviewed for the story. APIC is referenced as a source for further information in the broadcast and on the website. 

One of the most dangerous threats inside hospitals today is a superbug called CRE, a bacteria resistant to antibiotics. The CDC’s VitalSigns report prompted a deluge of media interest in this ‘nightmare bacteria.’

APIC worked with CBS Evening News on an in-depth segment that included interviews with CRE experts and APIC members at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, IL.  In addition, APIC’s Government Affairs team provided detailed information on healthcare-associated infection reporting, including APIC’s newly released state CRE reporting map.
