APIC’s new consumer campaign featured in Wall Street Journal

APIC’s new “Infection Prevention and You” consumer education campaign was featured in a 9/30/13 Wall Street Journal article titled, “Why hospitals want patients to ask doctors, ‘Have you washed your hands?’”

The story, which appeared in the Journal’s “Informed Patient column,” includes a quote from Carol McLay, chair of APIC’s communications committee that designed the campaign. “We’ve been focusing on intensive interventions to improve hand hygiene among health-care workers for decades, yet we’ve really shown very little progress,” says McLay in the article. “We are trying to empower patients and families to speak up and understand their role.”

As part of the new campaign, each APIC member will receive a poster with the fall issue of Prevention Strategist with tips on how consumers can play an active role in infection prevention.
