Arlington, VA, June 15, 2026 — With more than 680,000 healthcare-associated infections occurring in U.S. hospitals every year, and HAI rates only now recovering to pre-pandemic levels, the demand for well-trained infection preventionists has never been greater. Today, APIC is responding with the fully rebuilt EPI Intensive, its most comprehensive education program, now featuring refreshed content across 23 modules designed to build a strong foundation in infection prevention and control competency.
As the field evolves, so does the EPI Intensive. APIC’s most popular learning series has been fully refreshed to reflect today’s infection prevention standards, updated guidance, and the practical competency areas that define excellence in IPC work. Every module includes real-world scenarios, knowledge checks, and case study analyses designed to move from learning to practice.
“The infection prevention workforce is evolving, and so is the education that supports it,” said Devin Jopp, APIC CEO. “As more professionals from diverse backgrounds enter the field and the demands of IPC work continue to expand, EPI Intensive gives infection preventionists the foundational tools and knowledge they need to build confidence and competency from day one.”
The redesigned EPI Intensive spans 23 modules covering the full scope of infection prevention and control practice, including epidemiology and outbreak investigation, microbiology, surveillance, HAI prevention, quality improvement, regulations and standards, high-level disinfection and sterilization, occupational health, and emergency management.
The full series also includes four modules exclusive to the complete program: Role of the Infection Preventionist, Getting Started with NHSN, LabID, and Grow in Your Role.
The program is structured to accommodate a range of learner needs, with options to purchase individual modules, curated topical bundles, or the complete series. The EPI Intensive is offered as both Live Virtual instructor-led and in-person learning options. Those who complete the full series online receive one year of access, compared to six months for standalone modules.
EPI Intensive is designed as foundational education for those new to infection prevention, including new IPs building core competencies, healthcare professionals supporting IPC programs, and organizations looking to standardize onboarding and training for IPC staff.
All modules are eligible for ANCC contact hours and CBIC IPUs.
