Emerging Infectious Diseases
Emerging infectious diseases are infections that have newly appeared in a population or have existed but are experiencing a rapid increase in incidence or geographic range. These diseases, caused by various pathogens and including both new and reemerging threats, can arise or spread due to factors such as globalization and the increasing development of antimicrobial resistance.
APIC has set up this page as a resource for infection preventionists on emerging pathogens and infectious diseases. Please check back frequently for updates. Learn about the EID Task force here.
