A Resource for Addressing Discrepancies in the Manufacturer’s Instructions for Use of Non-Critical Devices (MIFUs)
MIFUs are intended to guide the safe and effective use of medical devices, including cleaning and disinfection processes. However, healthcare facilities often face challenges, including conflicting or difficult-to-implement guidance. This toolkit provides a structured approach to help Infection Preventionists evaluate discrepancies, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and determine appropriate next steps when discrepancies arise.
This toolkit is a comprehensive resource designed to support infection prevention programs by providing a systematic framework for reviewing MIFUs for non-critical devices, assessing risks, and documenting decisions aligned with infection prevention principles and regulatory expectations. It includes practical tools such as a decision-supportvalgorithm, templates, and real-world examples to support consistent and informed decision-making across healthcare settings.
