Wanda Summers, MPH, MS/IT, CIC, C.S.P.D.T. is an Infection Preventionist III at Medical University of South Carolina Orangeburg. She has been in the Infection prevention field for more than 13 years with experience in both the acute care setting and ambulatory services. During this time she has served her local APIC South Carolina Palmetto Chapter in various roles including Certification Co-Chair, Communications Chair, Midlands Regional Director, and APIC South Carolina Palmetto President. Her involvement in the South Carolina APIC Chapter allows her to share her passion for infection prevention and control with fellow members through planning educational events such as the annual fall education conference.
Jennifer Ormsby, DNP, RN, CPN, CIC, CPNP-PC

Jennifer Ormsby, DNP, RN, CPN, CIC, CPNP-PC is the Senior Director of Infection Prevention and Control at Boston Children’s Hospital. She has been a nurse for 24 years and in infection prevention for seven of those years. She has completed her Doctorate in Nursing Practice and is certified as a pediatric primary care nurse practitioner, as a pediatric nurse and in infection prevention. She is a leader in CLABSI prevention for both inpatient and ambulatory settings, leading the work for the Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) on Ambulatory CLABSI prevention. She also participates on the SPS Infection Prevention Advisory Group. She is the vice-chair of the APIC Practice Guidance Committee and leader of multiple tools for infection preventionists including USP 797, patient hand hygiene, behavioral health, long-term care and interpreting Association of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards. She represents APIC for many AAMI workgroups as the voice of the infection preventionist. She has led and published over 25 publications to highlight infection prevention efforts in high-level disinfection/sterilization, advancement of the infection preventionist (IP), building an ambulatory and procedural area infection prevention business case, investigations, and surgical site infection prevention.
Scott Bernshausen

Scott Bernshausen is a highly motivated progress-focused leader with an extensive background in Infection Prevention. He started his career as a licensed practical nurse in a long-term care center while obtaining his registered nursing license. He has a broad range of intensive care experience prior to assisting in opening an acute care endoscopy/pulmonology lab. In addition to long term care, bedside, and procedural nursing Scott transitioned his focus to join a quality team as an infection preventionist in an effort to magnify his impact on patient safety within the healthcare setting. Scott has a diverse education background to include: A Licensed Practical Nursing Diploma from Tri-County Technical College, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Tri-County Technical College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Arlington, and a Masters of Arts in Ministry, from Luther Rice College and Seminary. He has been a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Prevention (APIC) for 10 years, is Board Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC), holds a Penicillin Allergy Assessment and Skin Testing Certification (PAAST) through the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, and the ASSE 12080 Water Management Certification through the American Society of Safety Engineering.
A few career highlights include successfully eradicating a bat infestation in an acute care hospital, being selected for a series of interviews with the White House during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Serving in his current position as the Director of Infection Prevention for the Medical University of South Carolina’s Enterprise. Scott currently serves as the 2024-2025 APIC SC Palmetto President and strives to edify South Carolina’s infection preventionist and overall program through education, collaboration, and vision. His ultimate goal is to serve as a change agent inspiring a new generation of infection preventionist to dream big while reducing harm in healthcare.
Isis Lamphier, MPH, MHA, CIC

Isis Lamphier, MPH, MHA, CIC, is the Manager of Infection Prevention and Control at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. Her passion for infection prevention and control was sparked during her time at the University of Florida, where she developed a strong foundation in public health. With several years in the infection control field, Lamphier has gained experience across various healthcare settings, including a county health department, a long-term care facility, and now a comprehensive cancer center with two inpatient hospitals and multiple ambulatory centers.
In addition to her clinical role, Lamphier is an active contributor to the infection control community. She serves as an author, contributing editor, and editorial advisory board member for Infection Control Today, and contributes to other key publications such as IC Made Easy, The Joint Commission’s The Source (where she is also on the editorial advisory board), and APIC Text. Through these platforms, she works to expand knowledge and share best practices in infection prevention and control. Lamphier also contributes to the future of the field by mentoring students in the University of Florida’s Master of Public Health program.
She is a board member of several infection prevention organizations, including her local APIC chapter and a new APIC council for oncology infection preventionists, further demonstrating her dedication to advancing the field.
Rosa Lozano, MPH, CIC

Rosa Lozano served as the inaugural chair of APIC’s Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Task Force since its inception in August of 2022. The EID Task Force was formed to create a “rapid response” process within APIC in order facilitate a faster response to novel pathogens. Under Rosa’s leadership, the Task Force, has worked to help drive APIC’s response efforts and ensure coordination and consistency among the varying committees within APIC and ensure that we are nimble and timely in supporting our membership as new pathogens emerge. Rosa was instrumental in the development of the “playbooks” created by the task force as manuals for our members who are dealing with emerging infectious diseases in the field. These have been highly successful among members. Rosa has also served as a member of APIC’s Communications Committee from 2020-2022 as well as an active member of the Public Policy Committee from 2015 – 2017, where she assisted with comments on blood lancet regulations. Rosa has served in several Chapter leadership roles in both the San Antonio and Mile High Colorado Chapters.
Bethany Phillips MPH, CIC, MLS (ASCP)CM

Bethany Phillips has worked in infection prevention (IP) for over ten years in both the adult and pediatric settings. She is the Director of Infection Prevention & Control for Children’s Medical Center Dallas in Dallas, Texas. She has been an active member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) since 2016. She previously served at Dallas-Fort Worth APIC chapter for two years as co-chair of the Professional Advancement Committee and is currently the vice chair of national APIC Practice Guidance Committee (PGC). Through her role on PGC she has been a liaison to the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) since 2019 where she serves on the workgroups developing and revising AAMI guidance documents.
Luz Caicedo, MPH, CPH, CIC, CRCST, VA-BC

Luz has developed a CIC education program, available for free and via zoom. She makes the program available to anyone who would like to participate. Luz does this on her own time and with her own funds. The course has been extremely valuable to new and seasoned IPs and will certainly help propel the IP profession forward, develop current IPs, encourage those who want to become IPs, and refresh seasoned IPs. Luz has a passion for education and developing the IP profession and manages to do it all while managing her own department because of her love for infection prevention and education.

Together with Chaz Rhone, Becca has originated and facilitated the work being undertaken by the Academic Pathway sub-committee. This work will pave the future path for academic entry into our profession and facilitate bringing a new generation of infection preventionists into the field. This work is critical to maintaining the strength and future of our profession. Becca’s efforts have been innovative and tireless; she has contributed a significant amount of her own time and has effectively facilitated the contributions of others to move this work forward.

Kathleen McMullen, MPH, CIC, FAPIC

Kathleen McMullen has influenced key guidance changes vital to the field of infection prevention and control. She has served as member and is currently Chair of the Practice Guidance Committee. During her tenure, Kathleen aptly served as representative to the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) workgroups related to ST91 (Guidelines on the processing of semi-rigid and flexible endoscopes) and S79 (Steam sterilization guidelines). Kathleen also took the lead to address the issue of disinfection of transcutaneous ultrasound transducers used for percutaneous procedures or for the purpose of monitoring other invasive procedures. These efforts resulted in APIC’s close collaboration with the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) and the publication of an Intersocietal Position Statement on the topic in March 2021. Kathleen serves on the COVID-19 Task Force to support the needs of infection preventionists during the pandemic. A key contribution from this work is the publication she co-authored which focused the attention of hospitals on healthcare-associated infections during the pandemic.
Sue Barnes, RN, CIC, FAPIC

Since retiring as the National Infection Prevention Director for Kaiser Permanente in 2016, Sue Barnes has served as an advisor and consultant for industry partners and professional organizations including APIC, AORN and IDSA. She is Board certified in Infection Control and Prevention and was granted the designation of Fellow of APIC in 2015 (FAPIC). She has been in the field of Infection Prevention since 1989. She has participated in the development of a number of APIC implementation guides, and served as a speaker for organizations including AORN and APIC. In addition, Sue has been published in journals including AORN Journal, American Journal of Infection Control, The Joint Commission Source for Compliance Strategies and The Permanente Journal. She served on the National APIC Board of Directors from 2010 to 2012, and the San Francisco APIC chapter board of directors from 2007 – 2017.
