IP Academic Pathway

As part of APIC’s strategy to increase the pipeline for new IPs into the profession, APIC formed the IP Academic Pathway (IPAP).

Through this initiative, APIC will partner with colleges and universities to design a certificate program, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degree programs to prepare students for careers in infection prevention and control.

While APIC has a robust competency model and other resources to support professionals currently practicing in the field, a clear pathway into an infection prevention and control career does not exist for college and university students.
