CMS Proposes Minimum Staff Requirements for LTC

Post Date: 09/05/2023

CMS issued a proposed rule requiring minimum staffing requirements for nursing homes. The proposed rule includes three core staffing proposals:

Minimum staffing standards for registered nurses and nurse aides;
Requirements to have an RN onsite 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
Enhanced facility assessment requirements.

APIC has expressed concern that the proposed rule does not include staffing requirements for infection preventionists in nursing homes.
