Craigavon Area Hospital had seen a continual increase in MRSA cases each year since the 1990s. Dr. Nizam Damani led an initiative to turn the tide on this sustained growth. He developed an infection control training program that trained 98 front line staff in his hospital on ways to lower the risk and transmission of infection. In addition, Damani and his tram ensured that all levels of staff were given intensive Area Hospital witnessed up to 70 percent hand hygiene compliance in some clinical areas as well as the first overall reduction in the rate of MRSA in 10 years.
